Small Group Agenda and Activities

A list of what some small groups have done beyond the usual sharing & supporting

 

  • Tell life stories
  • Narrate spiritual journeys
  • Reveal financial autobiographies
  • Write and share life mission statements

 

  • Discuss Mennonite Church issues or
    pressing social issues
  • Discuss issues related to use of money,
    time, talents, …
  • Work with a book of essays (1 per
    month)
  • Share big ideas you’re working with

 

  • Engage in Bible study
  • Share your 5-7 most formative scripture
    texts
  • Explore the Enneagram together
  • Converse on spiritual direction
    questions
  • Discuss the questions raised in
    “Exploring Baptism” class
  • Discuss the question: “How can small
    group help you deepen your faith
    commitment?”
  • Talk about “why we believe in God”
  • Have everyone write down a question
    they wonder about; put them in a hat;
    draw one each meeting and have
    everyone answer.
  • Read the Lectionary together
  • Practice the Lectio Divina
  • Compose “O antiphons”
    (poetry/formulated prayer)

 

  • Share things that bring us joy
  • Share music that moves us (and burn a
    small group CD)
  • Sing

 

  • Do funeral planning
  • Address end-of-life issues

 

  • Visit group members’ work places
  • Spend a weekend at the Urban Life
    Center (Chicago)

 

  • Plan and host a fundraiser meal
  • Host college students

 

  • Get together with another small group;
    invite a new group each month to join
    you.
  • Invite Assembly people who have
    shared or preached Sunday morning or
    taken an interesting trip, etc. for further
    discussion
  • Watch and discuss a movie
  • Have a game night
  • Have a Christmas gift exchange
  • Eat together
